Starla D. in the Q.C.: A Month

Full of Goodness Before Halloween

The crowd at Liaisons keeps getting hotter.

Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves! It is October, and in case you didn’t notice, that means it’s time to bust out those sewing machines, hot glue guns and Wal-Mart fabric and make your best Halloween outfit. Old Hallow’s Eve is on a Friday, and with all weekend to play, that means a whole weekend full of ghosts, demons, and men of all sorts in drag. I hope you have more than one costume ready by this point, because it has always been sort of tabby to wear the same one more than once, you dig?

John McCain’s bid for the White House isn’t the only thing crawling out of the grave right now! Scorpio is proud to announce that they are adding one more night to their week now. Fridays will play host to some of the best music the Queen City has seen in a couple of years with the addition of DJ Eric B, who also happens to be a good friend of mine. DJ Eric spins progressive house with a lot of sirens, remixes, and your favorite dance tunes.

Halloween night will kick off Fridays permanently at Scorpio, and will feature a Costume Contest with over $500 in cash prizes and will be hosted by the Costume Mistress herself, Gypsy Star. I hear a tight rumor that they will have go-go boys half naked dancing on the boxes… we can only pray and cross our fingers! Please, be sure to look out for any other surprises they may have jump out at you!

Also, if you haven’t seen the new Safari Room at Scorpio you are really missing out on a great show and marvelous music. Angela Lopez and I will be co-emceeing the drag show every Sunday night after the show on the main stage. Please be sure to stop by and tip us girls some dollars, holla!

Other things happening at Scorpios this month are as follows: Shana Nicole and Victoria Parker’s final benefit show to go to Miss Gay America will be on October 5. Please be sure to go in and toss both of those lovely ladies a few dollars for bus fare to St. Louis.
Worldwide known comic and friend of Lawanda Jackson, PT Comedian will bring her bag of jokes for you on October 8th and 12th.

October 26th will play host to one of the best queens this world will ever know, Luscious! Please be sure to come out and see what this Icon of drag really can do.

Chasers has a very spooky month to add to the calendar and by spooky I’m not talking about Brandy and Boom Boom! In Chasers recently, you may have noticed a change in the color. The inside of chasers is now navy blue(ish) and cranberry which adds a darker and more mysterious vibe to the all-male strip club… and did I mention the poles, but not the pole, are now chrome?

Also at Chasers this month, the new Dick and Jane Show will premier on Thursdays and will consist of two different local Janes/queens coming in every week to introduce the boys to you and host Chasers’ game show “Let’s Make a Deal”.

Chasers also has the Starlight Review every Sunday night at 8:30 featuring a few of the new young queens.

Things always seem to get freakier at Central Station! I saw last time I went in that they have added TVs all around the bar so that they can start showing football games on Sunday when they start opening at 12 pm. Sundays at noon will feature free pool and snacks, compliments of the bar staff.

The Friday night drag show at Central Station just got better with Brooklyn Dior’s Friday Night Fever and DJ Shawn… show time will be at midnight. Brooklyn recently had a cast full of all the living legends of the Charlotte-Metro and turned the house over on its side, honey! 25 years and the disco queen is still dancing. Congrats on a fabulous career!

Central Station too, will have a Halloween party and a fierce costume contest at the bar that night for all of you who want to participate.

Club Myxx will be resting in peace for the month of October until the new location is ready for the public. There is no word on when and where, but I’m sure we will all know… just hunt down Myshia Paris and ask her!

Faces, Charlotte’s newest and hottest hip-hop dancehall club plans to brew a stew this month like no other you have tasted! Miss Beverly is cooking up a special little concoction to put you under her spell and have her way with you! Just be sure you go out and give it a little taste.

On the 3rd the show will feature Marquis Paris, Chace, Myshia Paris, and Elaine Davis.

On the 10th, from America’s Got Talent, Dorea Saunders, Charlotte’s own tranny movie star! Also in the show that night will be Ontario St. James and Diettra Panucci.

October 12th will bring one of my sisters, Charlotte Damone (who just recently had a b-day, Beverly Iman Johnson, and Diondre Paris.

Don’t forget to go back and check out what is stewing with the Turn-a-bout Halloween show, where the queens dress as guys and the guys turn into queens.

Looking into the crystal ball will bring you to the crystal chandelier that drops out of the ceiling at The Garden and Gun Club. The clubs boasts 12,000 square feet of dance space and believe me, I’ll be bringing my tape measure. The Garden and Gun Club is finding something for you to do Wednesday through Sunday.

Wednesdays at the Gun and Garden Club are electro dance, house, and rock with your DJs D-Rail and Eric E with my favorite beer, PBR for $1.50. Thursdays you can enjoy soulful house with DJ Johnny Davis. Fridays and Saturdays at the moment are progressive house and tribal beats with DJ Andy Z.

Sundays are what’s really different with two separate parties on the same day. The uber-gay tea-dance will be on the patio from 4-9 with tasty finger food. Later that night will be their “Cocked and Loaded” party with DJ Jobey.

Please be sure to check back next month and I’ll let you know what is going on there!

I hear the gargoyles at the Charlotte Eagle are busting out of the stone and reeking havoc on the leather bar. Jim told me that they will no longer do industry night at the Eagle anymore. In replacement, they will be starting Monday night football.
Boots and Boxer night will still be on Tuesday night and Thursday night you can catch The Supper Bears with Grrrtender Dustin.

October 10-12, the 3rd annual Harvest Round-Up will hoe-down at The Eagle with their entire weekend celebrating country dance. Southern Country Charlotte will be giving out dance lessons as well as a few hot performances.

Halloween will be celebrated at The Eagle Friday and Saturday with a theme undisclosed at the time of my deadline. So please go check out their website at charlotteeagle.com for more details.

Heading over to the haunted pink house we like to call Liaisons, you will find many kindred spirits and ghosts of all kinds. I hear if you turn off the lights in the men’s bathroom and look in the mirror you will see a ghost, but that came from Ashley Jordan, and you know how she is.

Sloppy Sundays seem to be taking off a little bit at Liaisons. You pay $5 to get in the door and only pay $1 for well drinks and domestic beer. What a tremendous deal!
Saturday October 11, Liaisons will put on a fundraiser for the Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Charlotte, who we all know has a hard time staying above water. There will be a karaoke fundraiser that night that promises to be a blast. Also a trip to Cancun, Mexico will be auctioned off, complements of Metro Kitchen and Bath.
Halloween at the haunted house will be themed out as “Scary Sexy Lunacy” and will also feature a costume contest with a huge prize, not yet determined.

One place celebrating Oktoberfest is Petra’s, thanks to the German-bred Petra herself. On the first of the month you can pay just $10 admission and get to taste ten different beers from around the world.

Don’t forget, Roxy C Moorecoxx has her trivia Tuesdays at Petra’s, which always seems to be a fun thing to go and do if you want to be home early. Teams can sign up at 7:30 and the game starts at 8pm sharp.

On Halloween Petra’s will transform into “The Witches Ball”. One of the owners Connie told me, “If you dress up like a Witch or Warlock you get in free.” You can’t go party hopping on Halloween and not go somewhere that’s free! Also, at The Witches Ball that night, a drawing for a fagtastic prize.

Over at The Woodshed this month you can catch the Mr. Woodshed Pageant on the 18th. (if you have ever seen a pageant at the woodshed, you know that it is always a sight to see… and a barrel of laughs).

The Woodshed is celebrating Halloween on Nov the 1st and calling it “Bloodshed at The Woodshed”. Please be sure to go and check out the Woodshed’s webpage via Google for more information with what is going on in the month of October.

I hope everyone has a festive and exciting Halloween! Please, be sure you check ALL candy before you put it in your mouth!  Don’t drink and drive, nothing is worse than a mug shot with remnants of Halloween makeup… especially if you are the joker from batman… I’m sure TMZ will have a couple of those.

In closing, I would like to take this chance and remind everyone how important it is to go out there and vote this Election Day. I know some may not think that their voice counts, but remember that it only took a spark to get a fire going! I want the next four years of my life to be the complete opposite of what they have been for the past eight. So please, by all means, take advantage of your right to vote now, because one day it could be taken away from us.

The Wicked Witch,
Starla DaVinci
