Asheville's gay community now has its own bowling league, the Sunday Afternoon Irregulars, competing every Sunday afternoon at Star Lanes on Kenilworth Road off of Tunnel Road. 

Organized on September 14th, the members elected officers, Paul Jelenchick, President; Janice O’Brien, Vice-President and Darren Lackey, Secretary/Treasurer; formed 5 teams and approved League rules. Since then we have grown to 8 teams of three, our goal being 10 teams of 3 before the end of the season.

As of Oct 5th, the team’s standings are:

1st: Pin Whackers
2nd: Easy Pick-ups
3rd: All Night Suckers
4th: The Wild Bunch
5th: The Pin Spankers
6th: Can’t Commit

Everyone in the community is invited to sign-on and become part of our league.  Our motto is “Have Fun.”  Our purpose is “Meet New Friends.”  How does that strike you? 

Stop in Sundays at 4:45pm at Star Lanes.  The one time sanction fee is $19.00 and weekly dues are $15.00.  Cash awards and prizes will be distributed at the end of the season in January.  There is a team waiting for you or bring your own team with you.  For more information contact: bowlingasheville@yahoo.com.
