Asheville GLBT Networking Group

Why is it that every businessperson I talk with lately asks, “How’s business?” In times like these, every sale or business advance is crucial to an organization’s success. It’s natural to reach out to fellow business community members to get an honest feel and to compare results. I often think when someone asks how business is going, they are really saying, “What are you doing that is working – or not working – and could we do business together?”

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to mingle in order to find other like-minded business people, who want to share openly about best practices and brainstorm how we can generate more business together?

Well, look no further. The Asheville GLBT Networking Group is alive and thriving. In our fifth month of existence, we have grown from a concept to a committed group that is filled with a passion for helping one another grow GLBT businesses in Asheville and the surrounding area.

Steve Jaffe, owner of Merrimon Florist hosted the September meeting. Our group was delighted to learn that this locally owned, 1700 square foot floral shop offer’s everything from cash and carry flowers and gifts, to traditional delivery services and custom online ordering. Jaffe’s dedication to customer service was evident when he explained that Merrimon Florist follows up with the recipient of every order. Yes, that’s right, they actually call each person that receives flowers to confirm that everything was satisfactory. In addition to a passion for customer service, Merrimon Florist is committed to “earth-friendly” practices. Biodegradable containers are used to eliminate unnecessary waste in landfills, and a “recycling rewards” program is in effect to encourage the reuse of glass vases. Here’s how it works: Bring back your vase from a Merrimon Florist purchase, and receive a free flower!

Steve Jaffe’s ideal referral is a corporate account, but when asked, “Who are we not sending flower’s to that we should be?” Jaffe’s response was, “The friends and family members you appreciate the most.” The next time you want to show your love and appreciation, think Merrimon Florist.
