Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby - Saturday, April 5, 8pm
with Kentucky Thunder
Eleven-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs is affectionately known as one of bluegrass music's most recognized ambassadors. His fun and innovative works have brought bluegrass to an unprecedented level of popularity. His most recent collaborator, Grammy winner Bruce Hornsby, has been praised as a virtuoso pianist, singer-songwriter, and band leader who has sold more than ten million albums.
These two legends combined forces to release an highly-acclaimed album in the spring of 2007--a combination of originals, re-invented ballads, like Hornsbys Mandolin Rain, and their own interpretations of classics like Rick James Superfreak. Thier live concert is a fascinating experience which recreates the magic of thier original collaboration.
Backed by Skaggs' band Kentucky Thunder and a few special guests, the album's eleven songs draw from deep roots in mountain music as well as their various musical heroes, including Bud Powell, Bill Evans, and Roscoe Holcomb. They will also play the older solo works which made them both elites in the musical industry. You don't want to miss this unique blend of bluegrass which adds piano and Hornsby's inimitable songwriting to the core bluegrass lineup of mandolin, guitar, bass, fiddle, and banjo. The Peace Center Announces
the 2007-2008 Greenville News Broadway Series
(Greenville, SC) Some of the hottest shows currently on Broadway are coming to The Peace
Center in 2007-2008. The Greenville News Broadway Series includes My Fair Lady, Sweeney
Todd, Monty Python's Spamalot, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Avenue Q.
Monty Python's Spamalot (April 8 - 13, 2008) won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical. It's
an outrageous new musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic "Monty Python and
The Holy Grail." Directed by Tony winner Mike Nichols, with a book by Eric Idle and music and
lyrics by the Grammy Award-winning tam of Mr. Idle and John Du Prez, Spamalot tells the tale
of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy
Grail. Flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchmen and show-stopping musical numbers are
just a few of the reasons audiences everywhere are eating up Spamalot.
The Drowsy Chaperone (May 13 - 18, 2008) Get ready to be transported to a magical,
wonderful world! A world where the critics are in awe, the audiences are in heaven and the
neighborhood is buzzing with excitement. Welcome to The Drowsy Chaperone, the new
musical comedy that is swooping into town with tons of laughs and the most 2006 Tony Awards
of any musical on Broadway! It all begins when a die-hard musical fan plays his favorite cast
album, a 1928 smash hit called "The Drowsy Chaperone," and the show magically bursts to life.
We are instantly immersed in the glamorous, hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her
uproarious wedding day--complete with thrills and surprises that take both the cast (literally)
and the audience (metaphorically) soaring into the rafters.
Avenue Q (July 15 -20, 2008) is Broadway's smash-hit 2004 Tony Award winner for Best
Musical, Best Score and Best Book. A hilarious show full of heart and hummable tunes, Avenue
Q is about trying to make it in NYC with big dreams and a tiny bank account. Called "one of the
funniest shows you're ever likely to see" by Entertainment Weekly, Avenue Q features a cast of
people and puppets who tell the story in a smart, risqué and downright entertaining way. The
New Yorker calls it "subversive and uproarious!" Recommended for ages 13 and up.
Peace Center President, Megan Riegel, comments on the 2007-2008 Broadway shows: "I'm particularly excited about the upcoming Broadway season. The shows are all first-class,
Award-winning productions. We anticipate that audiences are going to love this season!"
