C.L.O.S.E.R. Than You Think

by Robert White

If you did not attend the Bingo Night at C.L.O.S.E.R., you missed a riot. There was much laughter and a lot of serious Bingo playing. There were gamers who had one card and some who had five. One of our newer participants attended and won four games that night. I will not tell secrets, but M.U. won a pink fuzzy “thing” and demonstrated where he might be able to wear it. It was fun – not just his demonstration but the whole night.

Our session last month about wills, living wills and other partner-based documents was exceptionally valuable. We had 16 people show up, including one lawyer from another city who is interested in putting together these types of documents. Anyone who missed this informative talk who may be contemplating these issues needs to be sure to find the right kind of legal help.

We also had a night when we combined Pot Luck with an author, Benjamin Godfrey, who talked about an intriguing book he wrote, Whose God? And Three Related Works. The discussion was informative and important and Pot Luck was the usual fare of delicious and tempting items. It was a delightful dinner-chat session.

A few quotes inspired by visiting author Benjamin Godfrey’s discussion:

God created man in His own image, and, man, being a gentleman, returned the compliment.

Man is certainly stark mad: he cannot make a flea, yet he makes gods by the dozen.

Everyday people are straying away from the church and going back to God.

Believe in no other God than the one who insists on justice and equality among people.

May 6th: Learning About Stained Glass – C.L.O.S.E.R. member Robert Allwyn White will give a presentation about the art of stained glass. It will include some history, mini-demonstrations of working the glass and some thoughts about designing.

May 13th: Game Night – an evening of words, verbal and mental challenges and hilarious chatter while we play some of everyone’s favorite board games.

May 20th: An evening of audience participation with readings from a number of well-known and/or important pieces of theatre. Come on over and perhaps you will be discovered…

May 27th: This will be the fabulous end of the year Cook Out. Allen will prepare the major food.  Each person attending should bring some item – vegetables, custard, fruit, desserts, salad or any goodies to share with the group.

See you on the runway and remember  - the C.L.O.S.E.R. the group the greater the results.
