Personal Revolutions:
Success Strategies for Home-Based Businesses
With all the fuss over gas prices, many Americans are turning to working from home. There are many companies out there that claim that you can make tens of thousands of dollars by following their simple step-by-step process. Mailing postcards, medical billing, support desk positions are flooding our in boxes every day and we cannot delete them fast enough. If we were smart, we would just start a home based business that claims to have a home-based business for sale and for only $149.95 you too can be on your way to independence. Wait, didn't I get that email yesterday?
However, there are many of us who own our own companies and do not have a business address that is different from our home address. This would be a home based business, and with all HBB's, there are certain rules to success.
1. Deadlines; Set deadlines that have negative consequences if you miss them. When you have to get something done, you usually do it. Make rewards for meeting your deadlines. Perhaps you could treat yourself to a special lunch with a friend or an afternoon movie matinée, whatever the reward, make it great.
2. Develop a Routine; Many people operate best on routines. They have no problem getting up at the same time each day, eating at the same restaurant, ordering the same thing and listening to the same kind of music year in and year out. I am not talking about this kind of routine. Make a set way of carrying out the tasks that, if you had the money, you would hire someone else to do. If you need to balance the books, make a set time to do it and stick with the schedule. You will find that over time, when you meet this schedule you may not fall in love with the task, but you will at least not hate it.
3. Get off to a great start; Plan your tomorrows with fun in mind. Make your first task for the next day something that you enjoy. You can mix it up a little and have different fun things to do first thing each morning. This can help to keep you out of a rut and can boost mental energy.
4. Make your home office fabulous; No matter what your style is, everything needs style and your home office may be the most important place in your home when it comes to looking it's best. Paint it your favorite color, hang pictures that represent who you are, furnish it the way you want and above all else, let me say just one word: Lighting. Make the lighting in your office conducive to production as well as relaxation. You will spend more time in your office than you will in your living room so make it like a sanctuary not a hamster cage.
5. Finally, love yourself; Take the time to care for yourself. When you take a break, go for a walk. When you are hungry, keep healthy snacks within reach. You are able to keep your energy level up and your concentration focused when you take proper lunch breaks and dignified afternoon breaks. Treat yourself the way you would treat others you love. In fact, make your company the most employee friendly company in the industry.
You deserve to be successful and you deserve to be happy, design your life to achieve both. Good luck.
