WHO ARE WE?
OIA is a multi-media source of news, thought,
and lifestyle information for the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender communities of
western North Carolina and the upstate of
South Carolina. The monthly print edition print
edition of OIA is available at more than 120
locations in North Carolina, South Carolina,
and eastern Tennessee. The website and
weekly email newsletter, Come Out and Play
(with OIA), keep our readers informed and
up-to-date throughout the month. Because OIA is free and available to anyone, we strive
to maintain a higher standard of editorial
content and advertising.
OIA is a unique media in a unique market
serving a unique demographic. In much of our
distribution area, OIA is the only LGBTQ
publication and reaches a minimum of 15,000
readers each month. Many of our readers
travel, shop, vacation, and relocate across the
communities of the Carolinas and eastern
Tennessee, Asheville and Greenville/
Spartanburg in particular, making OIA an
indispensable resource throughout the region.
WHO ARE OUR READERS?
GLBT consumers have become a significant target market. One need only pick up a GLBT publication or watch a GLBT cable channel or visit a large PRIDE celebration, such as Atlanta or Raleigh, to see the attention being paid to this market by major national corporations.
Consider this:
• Estimated 2006 buying power of GLBT
consumers is more than $640 billion (source:
Witeck-Combs Communications)
• A minimum of 6% to 7% of the U.S. population over 18 self-identifies as GLB or T
• An estimated 94% of GLBT consumers go out of their way to buy products
advertised in GLBT media
• Same-gender households are found in 99.3% of all U.S. counties
Advertising in OIA makes sense!
